CROSS-LINKED METHYLCELLULOSEMICROCAPSULES AND PROCESS FOR MAKINGABSTRACTMicrocapsules containing an oil are produced usinga methylcellulose polymer as a wall-forming material byemulsifying an oil containing an oil soluble cross-linkingagent for the methylcellulose polymer in an aqueous solutionof the methylcellulose polymer at a temperature below thegelation temperature of the methylcellulose polymer, heatingthe emulsion to a temperature above the gelation temperatureof the methylcellulose polymer and maintaining that temperatureuntil the microcapsule walls are oil and water insoluble. Watersoluble cross-linking agents for the methylcellulose polymermay be added to the aqueous solution prior to heating the emulsion.
