ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSUREA method of maximizing the production of isocyanatesfrom the lower alkyl esters of mononuclear aromatic car-bamic acids by thermally decomposing the ester of said car-bamic acid in a continuous process while said ester isdissolved in a suitable inert solvent at a suitable concen-tration and at suitable temperatures in the presence of aninert carrier agent to produce the isocyanate and alcoholas overhead products at concentrations in the vapor phasewhich minimize the recombination of the isocyanate andalcohol.
