DRY DISTILLATION PROCESS FOR TREATING BUTIMINOUS OR OIL-CONTAINING MATERIAL

ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE:A dry distillation process comprises treating bituminousor oil-containing fine-grained material in a distillation zonewith a heat carrier comprising fine-grained dry distillationresidue which is heated in a pneumatic conveyor line by hotcombustion gases and then fed to a collecting vessel to remain inthe collecting vessel for a residence time of 1-40 minutes at atemperature in the range of 750°-850°C, continuously withdrawingdistillation residue from the collecting vessel and mixing same inthe dry distillation zone with the bituminous or oil-containingfine-grained material, the material containing at least 0.2 percentby weight of magnesium carbonate or calcium carbonate or amixture of these carbonates, withdrawing distillation productsfrom the distillation zone and feeding the withdrawn drydistillation residue to the inlet of the pneumatic conveyor lineto be reheated therein and withdrawing exhaust gases from thecollecting vessel. The process of the invention permits togreatly decrease the content of sulfur dioxide in the exhaustgases, in a simple and economical manner.
