ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSUREThe present specification discloses a method of selectivedissolution of the non-ferrous metals such as copper, lead andzinc contained in pyritic ores. The method invention isapplicable especially to ores of solid pyrites which contain non-ferrous metals in the form of sulphides or of very finelycrystallized sulpho-antimonides and sulpho-arsenides. Such oresare characterised by fine crystals, which may be of the orderof a few microns in size, and by the distribution of copper,lead and zinc ores in the pyrites,the matrix generally being ofsmall volume. The method according to the-invention can also besuccessfully applied in the treatment of other ores, for examplecupriferous pyrites containing only a certain proportion ofcopper sulphide, or more complex pyritic ores containing inaddition lead sulphide and zinc sulphide, which may or may not beassociated with copper sulphides, or sulphurized concentratesobtained by flotation, such as blende, galenite or chalcopyrite.The method for selectively dissolving non-ferrous metals contain-ed in pyritic ores, comprises crushing the ore, introducing thecrushed ore, which being stirred and at a temperature above theambiant temperature, into a reaction vessel containing a solutionof chlorides of a metal having two valency states, and injectinggaseous chlorine into said reaction vessel.
