ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURERECOVERING VISCOUS PETROLEUM FROM THICK TAR SANDRecovery of viscous petroleum such as from thicktar sands is assisted using a closed-loop flow path from theearth's surface through a substantial portion of the forma-tion for conducting hot fluid to reduce the viscosity of thepatroleum in the formation to develop a potential passage inthe formation outside the flow path into which a drive fluidis injected to promote movement of the petroleum to aproduction position.
