Cords for marking out straight lines for construction work are coated with a coloured powder and then stretched over the surface to be marked. The cord is given sharp flick so that it strokes the surface and marks it with a coloured line. - The cord is wound on the spool (2) which is rotated inside the housing (1) by the knob (22). The cord is brought out through a hole in the coned disc (23) and through a hole in the rubber washer (6) fixed in the cap (5). The housing (1) is filled with coloured powder which coats the cord. As the cord passes through the rubber washer the excess is scraped off.
