Waste sulphuric acid is atomised into a cracking furnace using an ultrasonic atomiser, consisting of a feed duct, an ultrasonic generator surrounding the duct near its mouth and having an annular resonance chamber, a line for introducing the propelling agent and a change direction device for deflecting the propelling agent from this line into the resonance chamber. Pref., the ultrasonic generator is surrounded by the annular outlet from the sulphuric acid feed duct. This arrangement enables SO2 yields of up to 99.5 % to be achieved.
