The combustion air is supplied under pressure by an annular ring while gas is fed by a pipe towards nozzle which exhibits the wide end of its conical outer surface in the direction of gas flow. This causes a restriction in the passage of gases from radial orifices and thus increases the gas velocity towards a hollow baffle with resultant improvement of mixing with air. In addition, the spacing between the base of the conical nozzle and the baffle can be adjusted to meet the local conditions in the furnace. The turbulent region of the burner is enriched with the gas flowing through small bores to enhance the firing rate.
