Inexpensive, shoe-soleing compsns - comprising SBR/polymer blends extended with oil and fillers without loss of props

Blends of thermoplastic styrene-butadiene rubber (SBR) with polystyrene, ethylene vinyl acetate or polyethylene, extended with oil and filled with pale coloured mineral, have improved props. when a fibrous filler and, opt. a fatty acid are included in the composition. The fibrous filler is pref. cellulose powder; the mineral filler is pref. high dispersivity silicic acid with particle size 50 mu and surface area (nitrogen absorption isotherm value) 100 BET units. The ratio fibrous:mineral filler is 10:1-1:1, pref. 10:3.5. The fibrous filler, mineral filler, extender oil, fatty acid and a surface active agent when necessary are pref. premixed prior to incorporation in the SBR-polymer blend. The compsn. is used for shoe soles; the fibrous filler compensating for loss of processability due to oil and mineral filler.
