The simple device consists of suitably connected current and voltage transformers, by which the existence of transverse currents in three phase networks may be detected. This is due to asymmetrical loading of the three phases, which in turn give rise to asymmetry of the voltage supply and inverse currents. The system depends on developing voltages proportional to the supply voltage and to any inverse currents due to the asymmetry of the network voltage. A suitable operation on these parameters produces a voltage proportional to the inverse current due to asymmetrical impedance loading of the system. A correction is also required for the current actually being taken by the user concerned. The device is built simply of transformers of which the windings are suitably connected and an integrating device to display the result of the operations.
