The control mechanism, for a crimping machine, has a piston operating the crimping device and indirectly operating the cutting and insulation-removing device. The motion of the piston is divided into two parts so that the crimping machine cuts the inserted wire insulation with a knife when the piston moves to its upper dead point. The insulation is stripped away by a clamping device and the bared wire is moved into position for crimping the connector around it. When the piston moves from its upper to its lower dead point the connector is crimped around the wire end by jaws.
