The invention silver is extd. from the ash of burnt sewage sludge, e.g., by electrolysis or by chemical means. This covers the cost of the disposal of sewage sludge by burning. The chemical removal of silver also removes other metals, and leaves a harmless residue opt. usable as a fertiliser.
