The container into which a slurry or sewage may be pumped from a low level and which can be mounted on a vehicle has a partition (2) near the entry and to form a liquid trap even when the tank is tilted, with an outlet (5) at the bottom connected to a three way valve (7) to which the suction line (21) is connected and with another outlet connected to the pump (27). The latter is connected to a two way valve (32) to convey the slurry upwards through a venturi nozzle (11) into a suction chamber (9) with a funnel shaped outlet (13) discharging into the liquid trap (4) below. A parallel line (35) with a flap valve (36) on top also connects the suction chamber back to the inlet line (21). When the tank is to be discharged, the three way valve shuts the inlet line, and connects a discharge tube (23) to the pump, on two-way valve setting.
