The water is atomised by compressed air into sprays jets consisting of fine droplets, which are sprayed onto an evaporator. The latter consists of a coiled pipe mounted in a disc-like housing formed by oval curved side walls to provide an elliptical cross-section. The water droplets evaporate on the evaporator surface, and the resulting steam-air mixture is removed from the evaporator housing. Several jets may be sprayed onto the evaporator surface from different directions: e.g. two spray jets are directed through diametrically opposed inlet openings (45) in the evaporator housing onto both sides of the evaporator which is located in the longitudinal plane of its housing.
