A system for regulating the rotation speed and torque in a multi-machine test installation is designed for independent operation of the speed and torque regulation circuits. The installation operates with a machine coupled to a test piece and with drive moment proportional control parameters applied to the regulating circuits. The coupling between the circuits is strongly reduced by using good system damping. This, in turn, enables circuits of improved dynamic characteristics to be used. The speed regulating signal is input to the circuit governing the torque via a decoupling circuit. Additional electrical damping signals are derived from the machine speeds and fed to one or all of the governors with suitable amplification and phase lag. Phase advance torque control signals derived from the desired torque value are also used as an input to the regulating circuits.
