Treated air (1) is supplied to a room (3) from a void (2) in the building structure through inlet openings (4). These can include dampers (10) and diffusers (5, 6). Stale air (11) leaves through the space between the inner (13) and outer (12) panes of a double glazed window. The inner pane has a horizontal slot (15) at the top for this purpose and the air flows vertically down through the space to a horizontal extract duct (17) below the window sill. This duct joins a common vertical header duct serving all rooms. A damper in the horizontal duct is controlled by a room thermostat so that the extract from each room is individual controlled.
