Cleaning flue gases from incinerators for chemical wastes - by absorbing acid cpds into particles which are continuously introduced-removed (NL110576)
In a process for removing acidic constituents from flue gases arising from incineration of chemical wastes the flue gases are first cooled to a suitable temp. and then passed through a bed of particulate solid material which absorbs the acidic constituents by reacting with them. The solid particles are continuously introduced into one side of the bed and move through it to the other side, from which they are removed. The gases flow countercurrently through the bed with respect to the particles. The flue gas temp. need only be reduced to a value at which the absorption reactions proceed quickly. The flue gases are not saturated with water vapour by the cooling process. The bedis not fluidised and the problems associated with fluidised beds (e.g. attrition leading to dust entrainment in the gas) are eliminated.
