As shown the moving means comprises piston- and-cylinder apparatus 23 (Fig. 5) the cylinder having an extension sleeve 35 capable of sealingly engaging the lock. The lock 12 (Fig. 6) comprises a ball valve having a cylindrical passage 48 therethrough capable of admitting tubes 18 which may contain cans of foodstuff or ampoules of pharmaceutical products. A similar arrangement at an exit location may have a hook on the end of the piston instead of the head 45.
