Low impedance flash-tube trigger circuit - permits rapid triggering of brief flash, especially for copiers

A circuit for triggering a gas-discharge flash-light with the flash-tube in parallel with a condenser across a voltage source together with a high tension triggering generatorgenerator (4, 5, 7) has such a low impedance, especially in respect of its inducatnace, that the triggering pulses which it supplies can heat the discharge plasma approximately adiabatically during ignition. The trigger pulses may be generated by a capacitor (4) charged from a source (5) with protection by a chain of blocking diodes (6) or by a piezoelectric crystal (7) with a suitable pressure device. The result is to avoid the normal-over-dimensioning required of the flash capacitor and supply with a high impedance trigger device to ensure reliable starting of the flash. The system is especially suitable for high speed copying machines requiring short exposures.
