The prodn. of an Fe electrode for alkali accumulators by applying active material to a metal tape mesh comprises adding an aq. soln. of 3-20 wt pts. surfactant (w.r.t. the dry wt. of the active material) to the active material contg. magnetite ore concentrate, Fe2O3, synthetic fibre, industrial FeS and aq. NiSO4 soln. applying to a steel tape mesh, drying 5-10 min. at 150-300 degrees C, treating the resultant electrode with a binder, consisting of 15-20% LiOH suspension in a 20% epoxide resin soln. contg. a hardener, e.g. polyethylenepolyamine, and then drying the electrode for 10-30 min. at 70-160 degrees C. The electrode has better electrical and strength characteristics than the usual lamellar Fe electrodes.
