The load cell for weighing instruments consists of an outer housing (21) and cover (22) through which passes a bearing pin (28) which transmits the load to the measurement transducer element (23) within the housing. The base of the load cell block has three hardened supporting feet (24-26) directly machined from the base plate. The feet are symmetrically rotated about the central axis (27) of the load cell and their lower faces are provided with knife-edges. The knife-edges give automatic compensation for any unevenness of the supporting surface (30) on which the weighing instrument is placed through controlled compression of the material surface. Alternatively, four feet may be used which are arranged symmetrically on the axes of symmetry of the load cell in pairs.
