Yarn cross-winding machine has a cutter and a reciprocable yarn guide which is provided with a tube pivotable about an axis between two end positions in one of which it is remote from the cutter and serves as a yarn guiding member and in the other it is pressed against the cutter. The yarn guide is actuated by a double-acting fluid unit which is articulated to a lever which pivots the tube between the two end positions and also serves for reciprocation of the yarn guide. Yarn guide serves both for yarn guiding and cutting.
