A cigarette designed to reduce its injurious effects on the smoker, has a heat conducting substance inside the tobacco, to transfer heat from a hot part to a cooler part. The conducting substance can be of metal such as aluminium, and extend the length of the tobacco, or may be of graphite. Alternatively the substance may be distributed within the tobacco, and may be of metal foil. It may be connected to the outside of the cigarette, or may form the outer tube. It may be of a material which is melted by the heat in the glowing part of the tobacco. It may also be in the form of one or more strips running from end to end inside the tobacco, or may be a coil.
