A hollow structure (2) is assembled from elongated hollow passage units (3), aligned at right angles to a base (8). Two adjacent units are of different length, and they are partially arranged at an interval from the base, on or above it. Part of the generated noise is deflected in passing through the hollow units, and phase-retarded. This deflected noise, and the noise spreading immediately overhead form superimposed layers, with a noise-attenuating area formed between them.
