Regenerating used foundry sand by dry mechanical treatment - sand being fed down vibrating tower filled with steel wool

The regeneration of used foundry sand involves cleaning and cooling, the used sand being fed through vibrating metal- fibres or- particles, and possibly feeding fresh- or heated- air through the fibres or particles. The energy vibrating the metal fibres is also used to feed the used sand into the tower contg. the fibres. The pref. plant has a vertical tower contg. a stack of perforated plates on which bundles of metal fibre rest. On the periphery of the tower is a helical track; and vibration of the tower forces the old sand up the track to a top inlet via which the sand flows down the tower through the fibre bundles. Process and plant are simplified compared to prior art.
