An edge trimming machine for boards, planks, beams with rough edges, has a device for fully automatic alignment of the board on the saw entry bench, relative to a reference line parallel to the entry direction, for feed towards the saw and adjustment of the two saw blades for economical cutting guidance. For this there is a scanner unit acting on points along the length on both sides of the reference line. After alignment, each board is height-adjusted in relation to the bench reference line (31) on the saw entry bench (2), and before scanning takes place, with subsequent introduction to the trimming saw on board supports (4), resting between the scanner units (14). This is done in so that its narrower flat cutting surface is in a predetermined working plane. The simple construction facilitates rapid and more accurate scanning, leading to accelerated board alignment and saw blade adjustment.
