The safety valve mechanism is designed as a locking device which can be controlled by the pressure of the medium which is monitored by the safety valve (8). It locks the actuating member (6) of the load mechanism (7), the resetting movement of the load device being coupled to the pressure-controlled resetting movement of the locking device. The load device for the safety valve can thus be easily set to a higher value before or even during use and as the pressure increases, the locking device is moved towards its end position, each position corresponding to the pressure prevailing at that time. It the maximum pressure set has still not been reached, the load device can be set back until the actual and theoretical values of the pressure coincide. Resetting the load device can only be undertaken in dependence on the pressure prevailing. The element of danger is avoided because the safety valve cannot be released too quick'y which could lead to a spurt of very hot liquid.
