Mining machine pick supporting system - uses three horizontal carrier rods to support offset, curved, trailing arm carrying picks

The curved arm (10) which carries a coal pick is mounted on a cross member (13) so that it can be used with a digging or scraping action. The connection uses three impact rods (14) in a line, which fit in orresponding holes (18) through the curve arm. These rods can be advanced or withdrawn axially, and can rotate in the securing holes (18). Part of each rod carries a screw surface (33) casuing the sliding movement, by operation against a cam member (35) formed as a lug on the casing of the cross member. The end of each rod remote from the curved arm is enclosed by a helical spring (29).
