Dry gas purifier has a section for contact between the gas stream and particulate solids with radial flow pattern. Along it are located longitudinal slots mounted tangentially to catch the solids and divert them into a screw conveyor. The latter are connected to the section side of a fan, the discharge side of which is connected to a vortex producing nozzle arrangement. The system can have a number of contact zones each with its own fan and vortex equipment. The conveyors can operate at varied speeds. They have seals which permit withdrawal from or introduction into the system of the solid material. Used e.g. to remove SO2 from power station exhaust gas.
