A refractory compsn. for lining metallurgical furnaces, moulds and gulleys consists of 10-30 % wt. Si3N4, 5-60 % wt. graphite, 10-65 % wt. amorphous C (anthracite, coke, soot) and 10-35 % wt SiC Si3N4 + SiC is 30-50 % wt. The compsn. shows improved resistance to attack by slags, alkalis and ocidn. It also has high thermal conductivity and thermal shock resistance.
