The assembly comprises an outrigger beam which can be moved through the vertical slit in the wall. Preferred embodiment the outrigger it itself an overhead rail for carrying a travelling crab with the lifting crane on it. The outrigger is fixed to the underside of a second, higher crab travelling on stationary rails above the pond level. Used for any used fuel element storage plant, either in a reactor plant for storing and elements during their decay time before removal or, for a reprocessing or disposal plant.
