Intermediate regenerator or amplifier fed via cable - has reference diode with two terminals for both anode and cathode for protection against induced voltages and currents
The intermediate amplifier or regenerator has a reference diode and is remotely fed with power over a cable or line. Both the anode (A) and the cathode of the reference diode, e.g. a Zener diode, have two terminals (1, 3; 2, 4). The intermediate regenerator (Z) is connected to one cathode terminal (2) and one anode terminal (4), and remote feeding of the regenerator is effected via the other cathode terminal (1) and the other anode terminal (3). In a practical form one electrode (A) of the reference diode is connected to the centre of a housing, and the two ends of the housing form the two terminals (3, 4) of this electrode. Highly effective protection against induced voltages and currents is afforded for the regenerator without excessive expenditure and without fundamental circuit changes.
