Phosphate-free cold setting refractory binder - contg. silicate cpds., titanium cpds. and opt. workability improvers and fibre-retardants

Binder for producing heat resistant products may be a powder or liq. and is used with water. It contains water-soluble alkali silicate, Ti cpds. and possibly additives to improve the workability and fire resistance. The pref. silicates are those of Na or K; the pref. Ti cpd. is TiO2. The silicate/TiO2 ratio is 1:100 to 20:1. Additives include amorphous SiO2 0.1-80% wt. (5-30%); ZnO 1-20 wt.%; a Ca cpd. (pref. Ca aluminate) 1-40 (15-25) % wt.; melamine -formaldehyde condensate 0.05-5% wt. of the Ca cpd. The binder does not lose strength at temps. above 600 degrees C.
