Flame-retardant needle-loom felts mfr. - using brominated cpd. and antimony tri:oxide dispersed in polymer latex

A method of mfr. of flame-retardant flat textiles, esp. needle loom felts, uses a mixt. of a brominated organic cpd. and Sb2O3 dispersed in a latex. Suitable Br cpds. are 1,3,5-tris(2,3-dibromopropyl)-2,4,6-trioxohexahydro-s-triazine and bis-(2,3-dibromopropyl)fumarate. The method is esp. useful for treating polypropylene felts used in carpet backings. It can also be applied to prods. made from polyamide or polyester fibre or their mixts. with one another or with natural or regenerated cellulsoe fibres. Flame-retardants attached by chemical reactin with gps. in the fibres lead to prods. of low tensile strength, poor light fastness and poor handle. This method overcomes the problems.
