The motor has two parallel discs(1) with a connecting rod (7) between them. The connecting rod is pivoted at one end(34) and carries a shaft (13) at its other end which runs perpendicular between the two discs. The ends of the shaft rest in profiled recesses(10, 11) in the discs. A tension spring(8) round the connecting rod pulls the rod down from TDC and thus rotates the discs. A flywheel causes the movement to continue and extend the spring again. The movement of the shaft in the profiled recesses changes the effective radius of the disc end of the connecting rod between the up and down strokes. This prolongs the period over which the motor runs without rewinding.
