The ring milling cutter (1) has a number of equally spaced slots inclined at an angle to the radius. Each slot receives a locking plate (53) which carries a cutting tip (52). A second cutting tip (54) fits in a recess cut in the locking plate (53) and its outer edge abuts against a packing piece (58) which fits in a recess (56) in the body of the cutter (1). The locking plate is secured by a clamping block (59) and screw (60) which at the same time clamps the second cutting tip (54) so that no additional clamping screw is needed.
