Fuel paste with reduced causticity - contg. oxygenated liquid fuel, inorganic carrier and alkali silicate

Fuel paste consisting of a mixt. of (A) 90-99 wt % aliphatic oxygen-contg. hydrocarbon cpd. which burns without soot or dust, (B) 1-10% of pyrogenic SiO2 opt. mixed with pyrogenic Al2O3 and for TiO2, or of pyrogenic Al2O3, with particle size 5-50 mu, and (c) 0.1-3 % alkali silicate. The paste has pH 7-10. Pref. (A) is an alcohol esp. methanol or ethanol, or a ketone e.g. acetone or MEK, (C) is Na or K silicate, pref. n amt. 0.1-2 wt % and (B) is pyrogenic SiO2 with surface area 200 m2/g' an mean particle size 12 mu. Used for igniting fires of coal, charcoal etc. or burning alone as a fuel. Caustic hazards of known compsns. contg. alkali or alkaline earth hydroxides and/or carbonates in phase of (C) are reduced.
