The system has a line network consisting of branches, branching nodes and stations. Each branch consists of two paths with opposite transmission directions. All paths in the network have the same number of transmission channels, each of which is allocated to a channel in the other path, so that a channel pair is produced. Each channel pair in a branch is assigned to a definite channel pair in each neighbouring branch, so that a channel pair tree is produced. A branching device is provided at each node, which transmits to each outgoing channel of a branch a combination of signals from corresponding incoming channels of all the other branches. A signal from only one incoming channel can count as a signal combination. One channel pair tree is engaged for signal transmission between two stations. A control unit is provided.
