Inserts for heat exchangers, washers, acoustic damping units, dripping pans or enthalpy pumps as claimed in DT. 2720123 are modified to mfr. them at a more economic price by using as prefabricated cellulose acetate, polyamide, polycarbonate, polystyrene, PVA, PVC or ABS tubular members commercially available drinking straws, having a dia. of from 1.5-3mm. The straws may be vibrated into an assembly which is held together with a shrunk-on plastics foil or elastic bands. Axial ends of straws may be confined by wire mesh screens.
