IC engine has two cylinders each contg. a piston having oppositely facing piston crowns (1, 2). The two crowns of each piston are rigidly secured together by a common skirt (3) and are connected through a single connecting rod (4) to a crankshaft (5). The crankshaft passes through openings in the common skirts and has two oppositely extending cranks so that the two pistons move opposite ways. The speed of the pistons may be regulated by asymmetrical gearing (6).
