The solar collector transfers the heat to a transmitting agent flowing through an absorber. The collector has a cover which can be extended or retracted to vary the degree to which the rays strike the absorber(12), typically an unrolling sheet or a laminated blind. In the latter case the slats(18) can be arranged to slide or rotate. Where sliding, they can be stowed at the rear of the absorber, being extended to the front via slots in it. The side of the slats or sheet towards the sun can be of reflective material.
