The radio communications network has a large number of transmitters all operating on the same frequency and covering overlapping zones. When making a general call to a subscriber who may be anywhere in the area, i.e. anywhere in several zones, only non-overlapping transmitters are actuated simultaneously. Groups of transmitters are actuated sequentially. This avoids the interference that would otherwise arise in the overlapping parts of the zones. The transmitters are connected by 2-wire cables to a control centre.
