High pressure liquid chromatography (HPLC) uses a column filled with a sorbent. At both ends are bosses with connections through which the sorbent can be put into the column. The tube has a concentric housing which is sealed off from the inside of the tube at both ends. Annular space has a pressure balancing capillary which allows the inner tube not to be especially pressure resistant. At least at the outlet end of the inner tube a long seal is provided which surrounds its wall. This takes the form of a compressible bush. The inner tube is plastic. The tube is for use in HPLC analytical techniques. Arrangement allows tubes of less precision dimensions to be used, esp. plastic tubes.
