Catalytic glycol carbonate alcoholysis with MeOH takes place at 10-200 degrees C in the presence of 9-50 (10-30) C aliphatic and/or cycloaliphatic hydrocarbons and/or hydrocarbons contg. benzine- and mineral oil fractions. The dimethyl carbonate-contg. hydrocarbon phase is sepd. and the dimethyl carbonate is isolated from this phase by distn. Wt. ratio added hydrocarbons and/or benzine-and mineral oil-contg. hydrocarbons to reaction mixt. is pref. 10:1 to 1:10. Pure Me2CO3 is obtd. economically in good yield, as main distn. fraction.
