Corrosion inhibiting transparent methyl-pentene (co)polymer blend - with high impact strength and thermal stability, useful for packaging etc

The blend consists of poly-4-methyl-1-pentene (Ia) or a copolymer (Ib) of 4-methyl-1-pentene with hexene, pentaerythrityl 4-hydroxy-3,5-di-tert.-butylphenylpropionate (II), cyclic phosphinic ester (III) and corrosion inhibitor (IV). The novel features are that (III) comprises 4,4'-dimethyl-6,6'-di-tert. butyl-2',2-methylene-bisphenyl alpha-naphthyl- or phenyl-phosphinate and that the proportions of the components are 99.4-99.45, pref. 99.45 (wt)% (I), 0.1-0.4 pref. 0.2% (II), 0.4-0.1 pref. 0.3% (III) and 0.1-0.05, pref. 0.05% (IV). The blend is used for making medical equipment and appts. for packaging foodstuffs, for pipes filters etc. in the dairy industry and in the electrical and radio industries. It has increased impact strength and thermal stability, is transparent and physiologically harmless and can be sterilised repeatedly. It also has high dielectric values in wide frequency and temp. ranges and good dimensional stability.
