New herbicidal agents for selective combatting millet species (e.g. Setaria, Echinochloa, Digitaria and Panicum spp.), Eleusine spp., Lolium spp. and Rotboellia exaltata contain the cpd. of formula (I) in combination with a methylenedioxybenzene deriv. of formula (II): In the formulae, Y is H, halogen, alkyl, or a linear, branched or cyclic polyether group; X is linear, branched or cyclic polyether group, halogen, CN, CH2CN, CH2OH, CH2SH, ethynyl, -CH=NOR, -CH=CH-R1, -CONR2R3, -CSNR2R3, -CH2CH(CH3)-SO-(CH2)7CH3, cycloalkyl substd. by 1 or 2 alkoxycarbonyl and/or alkyl groups, a cycloalkanone group opt. substd. by alkyl and/or alkoxycarbonyl, or a cycloalkenone group opt. substd. by alkyl; or X+Y is alkylene opt. substd. by 1 or 2 alkoxycarbonyl and/or alkyl groups; R is alkylcarbonyl; R1 is pyridyl; and R2, R3 is H, alkyl, alkoxycarbonylalkyl, aryl or haloaryl. (I) and (II) act synergistically against economically important grassy weeds. Since the combinations are highly selective they may be used against grassy weeds in a variety of crops including soya and other beans, cereals, cotton, sugar beet, groundnuts, lucern, clover, rape, flax, tobacco, potatoes and brassicas.
