The electricity meter is used for the power-related detection of power consumption and is provided with counting mechanisms (52, 53 and 54) for total consumption and excess consumption and with setting devices (55, 56, 57) for a number of different recording limits of over consumption. The various recording limits can both be set with corresponding means and switched over as a function of time. These means, particularly for driving the excess consumption counting mechanism, can be constructed to be partly electronic, fully electronic or also mechanical. The excess consumption counting mechanism (54) is suitably contained in an additional housing (50) which is arranged on the terminal block of the electricity meter housing (51). The user can thus take electrical power from the power system for a low price not only in the times of low loading but also in times of medium loading as determined by the electricity supply undertaking.
