The protection circuit disconnects a static inverter under no-load conditions. The inverter is connected to a battery and acts as an emergency supply for a fluorescent lamp. The low-voltage winding or a separate winding of the static inverter's transformer (5) is connected to a trigger (7) that responds to the large voltage spikes occurring when the inverter (4) is under no load. The switch acts on a bistable multivibrator (8) that disconnects the inverter and keeps it disconnected.
