Hydraulic structure forming dam or dyke - consists of row of interlocking filled sacks of alternate circular and hollow dumb=bell form in horizontal section
The hydraulic structure may be deployed as a dam or a dyke and utilises an alternation of interlocking filled envelopes (1, 2). The envelopes or sacks are respectively of a circular (1) and a hollow dumbell form (2) in horizontal section and alternate in lines with the circular section (1) fitting in the concave zone of the second section (2) to provide lateral interlock. The horizontal distance between the circular units (1) may lie between one - and two times their diameter, and both units may have a similar sectional area. The structure is built in stages with two adjacent circular units (1) being fitted initially. The intervening dumbell unit (2) is then filled and the process repeats. A more robust dam may comprise two rows of interlocking units (1, 2) with the interval filled with suitable material.
