The heat recuperation system for a chimney (1) uses a heat exchanger (3, 4) in the form of an extension to the chimney mounted above the roof (2). This has an inner shell (3) through which the flue gasses pass, and an outer shell (4) over which flows fresh air from outside. The fresh air may be driven inside by a fan (10) near the base. The heat exchanger forms part of a heat pump (8) using a refrigerant medium which flows through a line (9) to the heat exchanger, then back through a return line (11) to the heat pump.
